PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Green Building Education, Mar 2009—present. Partner. GBE is a Montreal based company whose mission is to make quality green building education easily accessible to all. We believe that lasting change only truly happens when people change the way they think, and this can only be achieved through education. GBE is building a global network of partners who share this mission and are committed to becoming part of the solution.
EcoCité Developments, Inc., Mar. 2009—present. Principal. EcoCité is an entrepreneurial eco-real-estate development company that builds sustainable structures and communities, and provides support to others who wish to do the same. EcoCité’s mission is to provide leadership to create communities that profitably regenerate the environment through processes that mimic natural systems.
iLiv Technologies, Inc., Dec. 2007—present. VP for Knowledge and Community. iLiv is working to create a highly effective place on the web for green building—where community, knowledge, and tools will work seamlessly together to significantly improve access to green building practices, and leverage their effectiveness, in order to radically improve the entire property industry’s environmental performance globally.
World Green Building Council, 2003—May 2007. Founding Board Secretary and Executive Director, focusing on developing the council and its programs both internally and with partners. Served as founding secretary from 2003 to 2005 before committing full time to its development in June 2005. The World Green Building Council is a union of national green building councils around the world. Its mission is to accelerate the transformation of the global property industry towards sustainability by helping to create successful green building councils that implement effective green building rating systems, and by creating the premier voice for global green building.
Rocky Mountain Institute Green Development Services (RMI), Senior Consultant and Research Associate, January 1999–April 2005. Consulting projects included California Academy of Science, the Boston Museum of Science, Boston Convention Center, environmental design for schools in Brazil, teaching Natural Capitalism at Beijing University, High Performance Internet Data Centers, Greening a Texas Instruments Chip FAB (LEED Gold), Greening the California State Capitol, The Capitol East End project in Sacramento, a new corporate headquarters for Carmax, and greening Bulmers — the world's largest maker of hard cider. RMI is an independent, entrepreneurial, nonprofit organization that fosters the efficient and restorative use of resources to make the world secure, just, prosperous, and life-sustaining.
Gottfried Technology, Inc., Director, BuildingFutures Services, 1997–98. David Gottfried is the founder of the USGBC and WorldGBC, Administered BuildingFutures Services, a comprehensive green building program for new commercial construction. Projects included the Santa Monica Public Safety Facility, the Industry Partner Program for Montana State University EPICenter, the California EPA Building, and a high-rise residential tower in San Francisco. During this time also organized and produced the “Dialogue on Sustainable Building” conference in Portland, Oregon.
Enron / Portland General Electric (PGE), “Earth Smart Ambassador” (commercial program manager), 1996–97. An innovative and comprehensive green building program for new commercial construction, funded by regulated utility energy-efficiency programs. Projects included Portland City Hall renovation, Nike Headquarters Campus expansion, University of Portland Science Lab, a college library, and numerous office buildings. Brought PGE support to the North Clackamas High School pilot performance-based fee project, an initiative of the Energy Foundation/Rocky Mountain Institute, and the founding of the Oregon Natural Step.
Gensler, senior project architect, 1991–96. In Los Angeles and London. Projects included a new domestic terminal for San Diego Airport, revisions to Delta's Terminal 5 at LAX, a new office building in downtown London, redevelopment of Babelsberg Studios in Pottsdam, Germany, Sony Lincoln Square Theaters in New York City, and the Sony Pictures Studio renovation in Culver City, California.
